Welcome to South Haven Mural

This project sparked my love for creating public art and was my first major commission after graduating college. It depicts the City of South Haven’s logo with two adjacent images reminiscent of the community I call home. On the right, local blueberry fields are illustrated making a nod to the community’s deep farming history as a significant contributor in Michigan’s Fruit Belt and its claim as the blueberry capital of the country. On the left, red begonias frame the view overlooking the Black River and gateway into Lake Michigan. They are planted annually adorning the Dykman bridge which sees endless traffic in the summer as locals and visitors alike enjoy navigating the waters. The mural adorns what is now the Bronson administrative building and was was co-funded by South Haven Health Systems and Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. The mural serves as a welcome to the city for traffic traveling west via the M43/I196 Business Loop.
